BRUTE!

A special treat for New Year's Eve. Extra large scans of the covers of BRUTE!, the creation of author Malcolm Bennett and illustrator/co author Aidan Hughes. Words and images were uncompromising,  crude and as bold as a set of brass monkeys. Men are MEN! and women are, well, I'll let this sample speak for itself...

Now, that's what I call literature. I believe the series ran for 7 issues from 1984 - 1987. The collected version is available on Amazon. Here are scans of covers for issues 2 - 7:

And if anyone knows where I can find issue 1 (see below), let me know!

  1. Hello, I have a copy of the above mentioned book, it is a reprint by Sphere Books published in 1897. I see that you say above the you have never seen a copy since, and I have searched the web and can not see a copy either. Please give me some info as I look to sell my copy which is in good condition by has aged through the years. I had no idea it would be a collector item when I first had it so did not keep it in mint condition...shame. medusamoon13@gmail.com

  2. The book you mention is the reprint that collects all the original issues of BRUTE! Not sure if the reprint is worth anything. I would hang onto it if I were you.

  3. Just to let you know that (1) Titan Books are reprinting the entire collection in 2015 and (2) Aidan Hughes is co-author as well as illustrator of BRUTE! There appears to be a concerted campaign to negate Hughes' literary contribution to the title and the Woodspeak language.

  4. That's great news. I will also amend the entry to include Aidan Hughes as co-writer (I had no idea). SORTED!
