What Were They Thinking?! #3

Flipping through an old copy of The Face from 1988, I came across this advert from British Rail. Okay, it's bit unfair. How could they have known? Even so, it was pretty damned creepy.

The Bulletproof Coffin: Disinterred #3 - Preview

Coffin Fly rises again to join The Unforgiving Eye in a race against time as The Red Menace launches an attack on planet Earth. But who is really behind this nefarious plan for world domination? Could it be that we are all no more than playthings in the hands of a 10-year-old sociopath?

The third issue of The Bulletproof Coffin: Disinterred is out tomorrow...

Shaky Kane: Blast From The Past #13

An original piece of art from my Shaky Kane collection today. And apologies for the intermittent appearance of the blog. It was fun to do it on a daily basis, but I am working on a lot of projects right now and the time just isn't there to spend as much time on the blog. I recommend checking in once a week - there should always be a couple of new things here, and I'll tweet and update on Facebook when I post.

Now here's the Shaky Kane goodness...

More publicity online for The Darkness #101. Hear artist Jeremy Haun and myself talking live to Comic Geek Speak. I'm embracing the Darkness at Comic Book Resources, talking to Ain't it Cool with Jeremy Haun, and interviewed at Comic Vine. Eric Stephenson blogs The Darkness on  It Sparkles! and this press release is going out all over.

It's Jackie's World...We Just Live In It! - The Darkness #101

In just 24 hours, The Darkness #101 will be appearing in comic book stores across the English speaking world. You can read a preview here.

Artist, Jeremy Haun and myself have been talking ourselves hoarse on various web sites. You can hear a podcast on iFanboy here, read an interview with USA Today, Marc Silvestri joins us to talk to IGN and there will be more to come over the next couple of days. Most important is to head down to your comic book store on Wednesday 21st March and buy the book! Don't forget if you're in London, come to Orbital Comics where I will be signing from 5pm. The first 20 people in line will get a free gift which could include the Darkness 2 video game, a Darkness Zippo lighter or a Darkling Statue. Here's mine.

I call him Cathead. He calls me Boss.

Guerrilla punk feminist icons Pussy Riot, featured in The Bulletproof Coffin: Disinterred #3 (see artwork by Destroyovski below), recently performed their anti-Putin prayer 'Holy Shit' in the Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow. Three members of the band have been identified and are looking at 7 years in prison for 'hooliganism'. We say: “Holy Mother, Blessed Virgin, chase Putin out!”

The Darkness #101

My first issue as new regular writer of The Darkness is out this Wednesday in your favourite comic book store. And if that store happens to be Orbital Comics, you're in luck because I will be there from 5pm to sign it. You can of course also bring along copies of The Bulletproof Coffin or anything else you fancy having signed, but The Darkness #101 is the centre of attention. 2K Games have also supplied giveaways and demos of The Darkness 2 video game, so if you're a gamer you should drop by to check us out.

Here are additional details: The first 20 copies of The Darkness #101 purchased at the signing this Wednesday (March 21) will come in a commemorative tin promotingThe Darkness II video game. In addition, select tins will include a voucher entitling the bearer to a copy of the game (PS3 or PC), a Darkling statue or a Darkness-branded Zippo lighter. You can see pictures of all these amazing giveaways below.

All you have to do is buy a copy of The Darkness#101 at the signing this Wednesday, 5pm and you could be in luck. We couldn’t make it any easier if we tried! For just £2.20 you can get a copy of the book, meet the writer, have it signed, and get the chance to win some cool Darkness swag.
The signing starts at 5pm sharp, so hurry down and make sure you’re among the first 20 people in line. David will happily sign as many copies of The Darkness #101 as you buy, but only the first 20 will come in a commemorative tin with a potential voucher. See you there!

Darkness Zippo lighter! I want one!

Welcome to the first in an occasional series of insane Japanese comics. This one has the irresistible title Funky Gutsman. It features martial arts in a cyberpunk setting with sexy mutants, body horror and terrific sound effects like "GYAWEE-N!" "ZA-ZA" "FROB" "SPLUNG!" "ZU-DA-DA"and "BO-KOM!"

I can't tell you anything about the creators of the comic as my knowledge of Japanese is non-existent and web research hasn't uncovered much information either. Any info would be welcome. All I do know is that Funky is a real-life person. He produces music for video games and he looks like this...

People often ask Shaky and myself what music inspires us. What do we listen to while we conjure up the words and images that go to make The Bulletproof Coffin the groovy graphic hit that's rockin' the nation?

Well, here's what's spinning on our turntable this week. Let us know if you'd like more tips on what's hot in the world of pop.

Jenny Lives With Eric And Martin

Recently the numerically challenged One Million Moms pressure group launched a campaign to stop Toys 'R' Us selling the same-sex marriage issue of Archie comics.

Here's part of what they have to say on their web site: "Unfortunately, children are now being exposed to same-sex marriage in a toy store. This is the last place a parent would expect to be confronted with questions from their children on topics that are too complicated for them to understand. Issues of this nature are being introduced too early and too soon, which is becoming extremely common and unnecessary."

As a service to the membership of One Million Moms, here are some excerpts from "Jenny Lives With Eric And Martin" by Susanne Boshce, with photos by Andreas Hansen, originally published in Denmark in 1981. If your children would like to know more about same-sex relationships you may like to use this as a visual aid. The book is currently out of print but available from sellers on Amazon.

Later that day Martin and Eric take Jenny our for a ride in her cart.

Isn't that sweet?
Don't be a grumpy old 'Mrs Jones'. Teach your kids right!
