Bernie Wrightson in The Witching Hour

This was a shilling well spent. Behind a wonderfully atmospheric cover, there lurks an Alex Toth story and then the brilliantly drawn "...And In A Far-Off Land." Bernie Wrightson and Steve Skeates sneaked some swords and sorcery into a mystery comic and blew my poor young mind.

Cover art by Mike Sekowsky with inks by Nick Cardy - June-July 1969
Here's a taster of the very early Bernie Wrightson art,
which instantly sent him into my list of Top Ten artists.

Jack Kirby in Fantasy Masterpieces #1

Here's another wonderful old comic crumbling away on my shelves. Fantasy Masterpieces #1 from February 1966, reprinting some classic tales from the fifties.

Stan the Man himself, making an appearance to introduce the creators (Oops! I mean 'the hired talent').

And here are a few pages from Jack's contribution with inks by Steve Ditko.

First issue with new creative team gets a 2nd printing

Fans of THE DARKNESS responded to the new creative team, David Hine and Jeremy Haun, by quickly snapping up copies of their debut issue, THE DARKNESS #101: The Crack in Everything, Part 1. The issue, which arrived in stores on March 21, has sold out and will be re-printed, with the second printing (JAN128232) arriving in stores on April 18.

Hine and Haun took over the story of Jackie Estacado after the events of ARTIFACTS #13 and in the wake of Top Cow’s REBIRTH initiative. On the surface, Jackie Estacado has everything he ever wanted — control of the Darkness, a successful career, wealth and, most importantly, a happy family life. However, his desire to make his life truly perfect will be his undoing. What happens when all of it begins to slip through the cracks?

THE DARKNESS #102 (FEB120499) will be in stores on April 25.

The Bulletproof Coffin: Disinterred #4 - Preview

"Cut-ups are for everyone. Anybody can make cut-ups...The cut-ups can be applied to other fields than writing." William Burroughs

Right now, Shaky and myself are putting the final touches to the next Bulletproof Coffin. As promised, this is the cut-up issue. 84 panels randomly arranged, four to a page. In case you thought we were kidding, here are 76 of the panels on the floor of the studio.

You can also make cut-ups using existing comic books.
Here's Shaky about to customize a classic Kirby comic...

The work in progress...

Now why don't you try it with some of your favourite comics?
