Frank Quitely - Electric Soup Ye Sassenachs!

Mainstream comic fans are often a wee bit puzzled by Frank Quitely's drawing style. As in "Where the hell did that come from?!" Rumour has it that poor Frank led a deprived childhood. He had no books, no TV, no comics, except this...

The Broons created by R.D. Low with artist Dudley D. Watkins and later drawn by Ken H. Harrison, was published in the Scottish newspaper, The Sunday Post and was the only visual input Frank had in his formative years. The long nights spent re-reading and secretly tracing the tattered cuttings he hid beneath his mattress, led to the unique drawing style that sprang fully-formed onto the page when Frank was unleashed in the Scottish comic Electric Soup. The following samples are from issue 8, published by John Brown Publishing in 1991.
