Kooky Komic Kovers

More scans from the haul of strange and diabolically awful comic books I picked up at NYCC. I particularly enjoyed Dracula as a misunderstood super hero in the Batman mold; Captain Venture and Kona, Monarch of Monster Isle look like something Kane and Hine might have dreamed up for Golden Nuggets Publications, and The Man From Uncle is actually quite a classy design.

Jimmy Olsen - Mobster's Moll

When I go to conventions in the USA I always make a point of checking out the dealers' tables. There is a vast array of old comics available, far more than you can find at UK conventions, and if you're not too worried about the condition of the comics, you can pick up some real bargains. Today I'm scanning some of the gems I picked up at NYCC last year, starting with the classic transvestite Jimmy Olsen story "Miss Jimmy Olsen" by Robert Bernstein (script), Curt Swan (pencils) and Stan Kaye (inks), from the 1996 Jimmy Olsen 80-page giant. Originally published in Jimmy Olsen  #95, this was already Jimmy's third outing as a crossdresser.

And at this point, I'll draw a veil over the proceedings.
(You really don't want to see Big Monte snogging a monkey do you?)

Cowboys and Insects - The Insects!

Coming soon from Aces Weekly - 'Cowboys and Insects!' written by myself and drawn by Shaky Kane. Here's an advance piece of art by Shaky.

Writing a story that features insects so heavily does of course require a lot of research into the habits of our insect friends. I found my copy of Pouchet's 'The Universe' to be invaluable. I have scanned a few of the pages that have served as inspiration for our story of giant insects and the men who wrangle them.
